Nepal Traffic Police doing the usual check up

Me: Yes how can I help you

Police Personnel: what

Me : Your Options are

Option A: Should I breath?

Option B: Should I show my license or blue book?

Option C:  Should I tell you where I am coming from or going to?

Police personnel: What are you saying?

This might sound funny but reality is, I have tried this and I got the most pathetic answer, Please go. Imagine the traffic police asking all these questions and irritating you in every 10 minutes distance, you simply think it’s you bad day. Most importantly, if you by any chance have forgotten your blue book or license then you’re lucky person you will just get a red chit but if they find you drunk or if they believe that you have taken a sip also then even GOD cannot help you, you’re gone for the next day. As soon as you get the slip your treachery starts. You feel as if you have done something wrong and as soon as you get the drunken slip your anxiety level shoots up and out of the blues you feel you have committed a crime. You feel something is wrong with you then to your desperate  attempt you may also have panic attack think why you took that drink. The next day making your way you hurriedly reach the central police station to get the license and to your amazement you feel relieved as there are so many people. Suddenly to your relieve your ego is satisfied thinking its not just you.

Ohhh its just normal to be drink and drive!!!!!!!!!!

Then to your amazement when you closely investigate you can see a long line there is a strict procedure involved, you simply break down. Oh hell it will take more than one hour, then to your amazement time passes by waiting and watching.

Please follow the below steps

1. One hour safety tip or no alcohol and driving class

2. After that you have to stand in line for more than one hour to get you cash receipt of NRS 1000

3. After acquiring the slip you have to get into line to submit the payment slip to acquire your license and that’s a rigorous process where it may take from half an hour to one just to search and settled the case

I believe what the traffic police is doing is good but on what base is my question. With no scientific equipment how can they predict and judge the bikers? Does their duty involve to judging people. I believe they are civil servants who have been entrusted in safeguarding the public interest, other than that it doesn’t come under their jurisdiction to evaluate the level of alcohol and to pass the judgment whether a person is drunk to the legal limits or not.

HOWEVER, their attitude and the way of communicating simply annoys you. The rude way of talking and their way of asking information simply makes you hate them. We all know they are also normal people and they are doing something good for us but every time a policeman stands in-front of me then why do I all feel intimidate and I feel like hating him instead of respecting him for what they are doing.

One thing what the Nepal police should understand is until and unless you give respect you won’t get respect. Tax payer are the group who have to be respect and no matter what and where it their right to be treated with decency and respect. The aspect of pubic respect and decency is a question that has been pending in the image of Nepal Police from long time. It’s now time to realize what should  be done and what needs to be done.
