Saudi diplomat escape his act It has been reported that the Saudi diplomat Hassan Ashoor, accused of confining and raping two Nepali women who worked as his domestic help, has left India.

According to the sources as reported in NDTV , ” The Saudi government had withdrawn him after India insisted on his being questioned by the police.”

The Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations gives diplomats immunity from arrest, criminal prosecution and civil lawsuits in the countries. Article 41 states the consular in the receiving State enjoys various perks and privileges as stated in the convention and the Article 41.1: ‘Consular officers shall not be liable to arrest or detention pending trail, except in the case of a grave crime and pursuant to a decision by competent judicial authority.’

Last week as per a tip the Gurgaon police raided the Saudi diplomat’s house where two Nepali house maid were recovered. The Police was informed by an NGO that filed a complaint against the diplomat. the mother and daughter duo were repeatedly gang-raped, tortured, starved and kept confined for over three months.
New York Times quotes the case, ” A Saudi diplomat accused of rape by two Nepali women who worked at his home near Delhi has left India, according to the Indian government, which confirmed that the man had diplomatic immunity from prosecution.”
