Soon after the verdict of the District court ruling in support of the Pooja Saha a minor who was raped and later who died, the protest still goes on. Various women rights organization like Maitai Nepal & Rakshaya Nepal have been standing in various location protesting against the violence against women.

According to one of the Activist, ” The situation of woman’s right and security is very vulnerable in Nepal, we have rules and regulation but there is no monitoring and administration. Only when there is a problem we reacts and I think that’s the problem. Women violence is something that is deep rooted which needs to be treated. First the woman in the society should be safe, secure and independent only then we can talk about equality or else its just political manifesto.”

The 28-year-old Kanhaiya Lal Gupta of Kalaiya-4 was announced guilty of rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl and was sentenced to 35 years in jail and confiscation of his properties on Tuesday.

Similarly in yet another case District Court of Ramechhap has convicted three persons Pradeep Bhujel, Yaku Shrestha, and Govinda Bhujel in a gang rape case and sentenced them to ten years in prison. The grouped had gang raped a 28 year old woman in august last year

They have been ordered to pay Nrs. 25,000 each as compensation to the victim.

According to a report unveiled by the Informal Sector Service Centre ( INSEC), 1, 569 women became victims to domestic violence last year 2014.

A total of 3,048 women and children were subjected to violence against them in this period, the report states. Similarly, 178 women and girl children were murdered for different reasons. Of them, 108 were killed by the members of their families while five by in-laws for not bringing dowry, six killed after rape and one killed on the charge of witchery.
