Kirtipur city risks its inhabitant with lack of its disaster management areas

The scarcity of human space is breaching its point where the advancement of the modern architecture further stiffens the situation. Kritipur one of the most oldest and architectural cities of Kathmandu is on verge of threatening the lives of thousand residing inside the periphery. The lack of awareness and the carelessness shown by the authorities has resulted in  a situation of  risk and threat, which can result in catastrophic actions in case of any disaster. Most importantly, Nepal lies in the risk of earth quake zone and looking at this the scope and role of disaster management seems very negligible in kirtipur.

According to a report of UNDP on Disaster Risk Reduction, ” Nepal is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world. The steep and flood-prone terrain, low levels of awareness, high illiteracy, poverty, rapid urbanization, the adverse eff ects of climate change and the lack of institutional and legal frameworks for disaster risk management all render Nepal’s population on, their property and the country’s infrastructure vulnerable to natural hazards. Floods and landslides are the natural disasters that occur most often and cause the most damage. Extensive flooding happens almost every year in the monsoon season, disrupting the lives of tens of thousands of people and ruining large tracts of agricultural land. Landslides are a recurrent threat to hill communities and cause large economic losses by blocking road transport. Climate change is exacerbating these threats leading to more floods and increasing the probability of catastrophic glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs). Earthquakes are the largest threat as most of Nepal lies in a high seismic risk zone. It is estimated that a strong earthquake in the Kathmandu Valley would cause at least 40,000 deaths.”

The congestion of space and the human has certainly made it vulnerable against any odds in case of natural disaster. One can imagine the chaos and destruction that can be caused. It’s a perfect exampled of urbanization and lack of space management. Just imagine the outcry of these cribs that stand one after the other with no precaution and safety measures. They stand tall within the self efficacy of satisfying their owners with in the selfish condition where their future lies crippled in their existence.
